ABSTRACT
Background. Worm infections are a disease caused by the infection of worms in the human body, which is transmitted through the soil. Prevention can be done by implementing clean and healthy living habits and giving deworming drugs every six months. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between handwashing with soap (HWWS) behaviour and the occurrence of worm infection in students at Elementary School 11 Kesiman.
Method. This study employed a quantitative study with a correlation analytic research design and a cross-sectional approach. This study was conducted in April 2023 at Elementary School 11 Kesiman. The population in this study were 121 students in years IV, V, and VI, with a total sample of 105 respondents recruited through simple random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test.
Results. Findings indicated no significant correlation between the behaviour of washing hands with soap (HWWS) and the occurrence of worm infections in the last six months at Elementary School 11 Kesiman (p>0.05).
Conclusion. There is no significant correlation between the behaviour of washing hands with soap (HWWS) and the occurrence of worms; therefore, further study is needed to identify other factors that cause worm infections.
