Abstract :
Background: The management of diabetes mellitus requires innovative approaches to improve patient engagement. Android-based applications have the potential to be an effective tool in supporting diabetes management through the five pillars of management. Methods: The study used a Research and Development (R&D) approach with two groups of respondents: app users and a panel of experts. The survey involved 30 users to rate the app's ease of use, performance, and visual appearance using a Likert scale of 1-5. In addition, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with an expert panel, consisting of health professionals and application developers, was conducted to evaluate the features and potential of the application. The data were analyzed descriptively. Results: Results show positive feedback from users. A total of 76.67% of users stated that the application was easy to use, and 83.33% rated the installation very easy. Navigation scored 80% with easy-to-find features, while 83.33% reported the app running smoothly. The visual aspect was appreciated, with 86.67% liking the design. Menu layout and content presentation obtained scores of 80% and 76.67%. The panel of experts rated key features such as blood sugar monitoring with a score of 87-88%, but suggested improvements to the foot care guide. Conclusion: Android apps for diabetes mellitus management show positive results in terms of ease of use and visual design. Feature enhancements and tutorial additions are needed to improve the user experience. Further research is recommended to evaluate the impact of the application on diabetes management.
